P. J. Ritter’s Jam Philadelphia Painted Firkin with Bail Handle
Here is a small painted firkin, that measures approx. 6 & 1/2 inches tall, exclusive of the bail handle. It’s in excellent, unrestored condition. It has the original old grey paint, along with the original paper labels on either side. One label reads: " P.J. Ritter's Pure Red Raspberry Jam, No. 22**-17 Frankford Avenue, Nos. 2145-56-58 East Dauphin St.", the rest being somewhat obscured, except for what looks like "Philadelphia". The label on the other side reads: "First Premium award at Centennial Ex. 1876, Cincinnati Ex. 1880-84, Two Gold Medals, Louisville, Ky., 1883."
If you like early painted treen ware, then this little firkin is a real gem!~~~
