Grand Tour Sterling Silver Trophy Presentation Loving Cup

Here is an exceptionally nice piece of antique Grand Tour sterling silver, made by the Gorham Mfg. Co., that measures approx. 8 & 3/4's inches high, and weighs approx. 670 grams or 21.5 ounces troy. It is in excellent condition, clean and bright, with no repairs or restorations, and has a nice mellow old patina. There are no dents or dings, aside from one tiny little pin prick type ding just below the monogram.

It bears the Gorham Crown, Anchor, and Recumbent Lion touch marks, along with the word 'Sterling' and the number "805, 2 & 1/2 pint", and finally the crescent shaped date mark for 1895.  It's all finely and lavishly chased with a repose grape vine motif, consisting of flowing leaves and tendrils on which hang large bunches of grapes----very beautiful!

It has a fancy old monogram "J.J.B." on one side, and bears a most interesting "Grand Tour" inscription on the reverse, which reads:

"Presented to Mr. & Mrs. James A. Burke, from friends, on their return from Europe, Sept. 12, 1896."

This is a wonderful piece of 19th century American Grand Tour silver, that would compliment even the most advanced collection.*
